Purchasing power in the palm of your hand.
Marketel’s Roch Berniquez, Vice-President Digital and CRM, took the stage to talk about the power of digital marketing.
Online, meet offline. Offline, meet online. It’s been a long time since they first met, and boy have they hit it off. So much so that they no longer exist as two different realms. At the 19th annual Conseil québécois du commerce de détail retail convention, Marketel’s Roch Berniquez attended as a keynote speaker to discuss the importance of integrating mobile into retail strategy, as well as recent mobile trends, mobile commerce, and case studies of successful marketing strategies that merge online and offline.
Canadians love technology and are the biggest Internet users in the world. One in three people own a smartphone, and up to 30% of web traffic comes from these mobile devices. When it comes to shopping, 86% of Canadians do a web search before purchasing the product they are looking for, so clearly the opportunity to engage consumers via mobile is huge, especially when it comes to local commerce. One in three mobile searches are local, and following this, 61% of consumers call the store, and 59% visit it. Mobile search has been doubling annually, so Roch emphasized the importance of localizing the message and creating share-worthy elements to your strategy, such as special deals and check-in discounts.
Roch’s presentation was very well received by the audience of retailers and marketers, with whom he left five key takeaway points to keep in mind: Online and offline are no longer two different places, people decide where conversations are held, social media influences everything, consumers are mobile and willing to spend, and lastly, when it comes to strategy, never be afraid to fail!
