Power to the people?s voice.

One of the best ways for brands to communicate their messages is not only to tell a good story, but tell it through their loyal fans, advocates, and ambassadors.

In continuing on with McCann Worldgroup’s list of what’s hot for 2012, we’re looking into two more trends that are currently making waves in brand communications, and these are all about telling and sharing a story.

Trend 5: Transmedia storytelling: Transmedia storytelling involves telling a single story across multiple platforms, and it’s changing the game of telling your brand’s tales. The content we create flows through different channels and is shared by consumers. As modern-day storytellers, our stories are projected through digital networks and can spread like wildfire, so the content must be entertaining and share-worthy! “When we launched the Student Unlimited Plan for Rogers last fall, we told the story across different platforms, from the TV spot over onto Facebook, where it became an interactive game. This campaign was fun, engaging, and successfully spread the message!” says Charles Benoit, Account Executive, Client Services.

Trend 6: Social media ambassadors: While spokespeople and traditional brand communicators are still very much in the game, the biggest brand ambassadors are now the loud and proud social media mavens who are passionate about what they like and what they believe in. While conventional broadcasting still carries a message effectively, consumers are now paying attention to social media ambassadors who share brand values though their individuality, philosophy, and social expression. “It’s important to connect with your consumers on a human level and start conversations. The Maybelline New York – Canada and Essie Canada Facebook communities are great examples of this. Fans of the brands are constantly sharing photos, blog posts, reviews, and tips within the community, and their peers definitely listen. Most women will do some research and read reviews online before purchasing a product, so it’s important for marketers to be in tune with what the fans are talking about,” says Victoria Ambroziak, Copywriter and Communications Coordinator.

Next up we’ll explore what curation chic is all about, and what makes a senseperience. Stay tuned!
