Here, there, and everywhere. Welcome to the Post-PC era.
We’ve transitioned into an era of new devices, new realities, new tools, and new toys. Our affiliates at McCann Worldgroup explore what all of this means in their latest report, The Post-PC Era.
For most people, it’s hard to think back to a life without a smartphone, or even an iPod. These days, life is guided and facilitated by our mobile digital devices. In their recent report entitled The Post-PC Era, McCann Worldgroup explores this new age of digital domination, and what it means for both individuals and industries.
The term “post-PC era” has been around for a while, but is becoming increasingly buzzed about. What it means is that we now live in a world where new devices are economically and socially surpassing the more traditional ones, such as desktop and laptop PCs. McCann gives the example of Apple and the worldwide popularity and prevalence of their post-PC products, including the iPod, iPad, and iPhone.
This new era is also defined by new realities: Your life is in your device, your media and information are always with you, wherever you are, and boundaries have vanished. Our work, home, and social lives are simultaneously present and accessible, while our relationships with our devices have become more intimate. Our beloved digital sidekicks are always within arm’s reach and are ultimately more physical. The days of mice and keyboards are being shadowed by newer innovations such as voice sensors, touch screens, and facial recognition.
“As old media boundaries are being digitally reshaped, Marketel is on the right path. We strive to go beyond simply pushing a message by creating lasting impressions that will leave the consumers wanting more,” says Bobby Destounis, Director of Digital Strategy at Marketel.
