From Montreal to Paris, the Brandstorm rolls on!

Marketel was on the scene at the L'Oréal Brandstorm national finals to show support and help select the winning team.

After months of brainstorming, mentoring, creating and working their tails off, the six teams competing for the coveted position of national L'Oréal Brandstorm winners came together for the Canadian finals in Montreal. The marketing students from Montreal’s HEC and McGill University as well as York University’s Schulich School of Business in Toronto finally had their time to shine. Each team gave a 15-minute presentation to the panel of judges and fielded five minutes of questions about the unique Body Shop product line that they conceptualized and created from a grassroots level, including product conception, packaging design and advertising.

This year the students had free reign to create something that fit The Body Shop’s brand values while demonstrating innovation, unique ideas and a visionary mindset capable of creating a product line that could be viably successful in the real market. Marketel’s creative teams of art directors and copywriters proudly played a significant role in helping the students bring their product visuals and presentations to life.

The judges awarded the teams points for presentation, integration and the originality of their ideas. Sitting on the judging panel were Javier San Juan, President and CEO of L'Oréal Canada, Bonnie MacDonald, Senior VP of The Body Shop, Alain Thiffault, HR Director at L'Oréal Paris, Marie-Claude Ducas, journalist and blogger, as well as Jacques Duval, President and CEO of Marketel.

“When I look at the quality of the thinking and creativity of all six teams, I am so glad that we as an agency were able to give the kind of support and mentoring that will hopefully jumpstart their professional careers in marketing. This experience makes me very optimistic about the next generation of marketers!” says Jacques.

The winners from Schulich School of Business will have their innovative, unique campaign revealed at the international finals in Paris in June where they will compete against other teams from around the world for the grand prize of 10,000 euros, the opportunity to be hired by L'Oréal and, of course, bragging rights of being the best in the world!
