A sign of the digital times.
Montreal’s out-of-home media network is getting a digital makeover.
Some major media changes are unfolding in Montreal. Québecor Média Inc. has recently been given a 20-year contract for the installation, maintenance, and operation of the Société de transport de Montréal’s (STM) bus shelter advertising network, which is currently undergoing some major changes. The traditional network is being updated with digital advertising and wireless communication systems, including LCD screens and columns.
Additionally, Astral Out-of-Home is introducing a new network of 30 state-of-the-art digital columns in Montreal’s city core, the first of its kind in Canada. These new columns take digital advertising to a whole new level, allowing brands to interact more with consumers and implement real-time updates. These new media spaces open the doors to new opportunities in advertising.
“Media concentration in Quebec has been on everyone’s mind in the last few months following the merge between Bell and Astral, and with the latest deal between Quebecor and the STM. We can see how Quebecor is planning on growing their offering to compete against Bell and to increase their media presence,” says Julie Bernier, Supervisor, Media Services.
“With Quebecor having such a large media offering, it means the role of the agency is still important, if not more so, in this changing media world. The agency is there to advise the client on how to use the right touchpoints available, in the right way, to reach each specific target. The increased number of partner offers will also mean more competition in the market since there are more suppliers for the same business. It’s still too early to see how Quebecor will leverage their new deal, but it will be interesting to see how it will unfold in the fall.”
